Uh Oh, Facebook Claims Another Victim
If you're wondering why I haven't updated my blog in a while...well, it's because I'm there.
Luckily, the internet at home has managed to stay connected long enough to feed my new addiction. I have reconnected with some very old and dear friends - even ones from elementary school in Newfoundland. I'm also going to try to find some people I worked with in the UK.
When I first heard about this site, I was thinking that there wasn't anything new on the 'net that could interest me too much; after all, I've been surfing my heart out for over 10 years now. But I was dead wrong. I'm not sure how long this will last, but for now I'm hooked.
In other news, I think I'm in partial denial that I'm going to be giving birth within the next month (I'm blaming facebook). Although, I did make one huge step today: I've bought a whole set of cloth diapers online from Mother-Ease. Looks like a good Canadian company - they produce 100% cotton diapers that fit newborns up to 35lb babies. I bought the unbleached kind, so I'm feeling particularly smug. We'll see just how smug I am when it comes time to wash 'em!
The house still isn't quite ready for our new arrival. Since Matt got his new job (which, by the way, he is enjoying), things have slowed down a bit. I'm not blaming him - I'm just so tired and swollen that I have a hard time cleaning and organizing for any good length of time - not that I was great at it before, either! Oh well, eventually I'll get my butt in gear out of sheer necessity. I can feel the beginnings of a nesting instinct kicking in. Only 33 more days to go. Oh my god.

Good News and a Movie You Don't Want to See
I just have to learn to get used to a new schedule - something that I'll have to do anyway with the baby- and become accustomed to seeing less of Matt (I had gotten used to him being around the house and to be honest I'm going to miss him a great deal. Especially if the baby decides to go colicky on me!) But I guess there are sacrifices to make; at least we'll be more comfortable financially and we'll be able to do a lot more...renovations on the house, visit out-of-town relatives more often, finally buy a 21st century television (we still physically turn a knob to turn our present tv on/off and to adjust the volume.) Oh, and now I will also have motivation to get my driver's license and get a small used vehicle to call my own. Some things to look forward to! Life is changing fairly drastically.
So the movie you don't want to see? It's called Marie Antoinette, and it stars Kirsten Dunst.
What a waste of two hours! It seemed to me like a film made by college students who had no idea or interest in the actual politics of the time, but whose parents had enough money to allow them to have good filming equipment and costumes. Sad thing? It was written and directed by Sophia Coppolla (daughter of Francis Ford).
This is what the movie showed me:
- Marie Antoinette was a young Austrian when she came to France to wed Louis Auguste (knew it already)
- She was a bit "green" and naive when it came to royal protocol (knew it already)
- Her husband the Dauphin wasn't really "into" marital relations with her (knew it already)
- She became more and more frivolous in her spending (knew it already)
- She was more interested in fashions and bonbons than in politics (knew it already).
So much for learning anything interesting whatsoever about the woman.
I heard that audiences in France actually booed at the initial viewings (it had been shot in France, with a mish-mosh of really bad American/British actors)...but I don't think they booed just because it was such a poor (read Americanised) representation of Marie Antoinette. It was just a horrible horrible movie. BOOOOOOOO! TWO THUMBS WAAAAAAYYYYHAYYYYYYYY DOWN.

F-ing Dentist!
Pregnancy gingivitis is caused by the extra surge of hormones that are coursing through me; why it affects the teeth, I have no idea. But they say that if it goes unchecked, it could potentially lead to preterm labour. So, I guess it’s a good thing I went for my butchering this morning.
They’re making me come back about 6-8 weeks after the baby is born, which ought to be an interesting outing.
Anyway, on another crappy note, it’s bloody cold outside! Minus 15 with the wind chill, and a good couple of centimetres of snow on the ground. What the hell is up with that? Just last week I was walking around without a coat. Now I’ve got to zip up, which is no easy feat anymore! Grumble, grumble.
I think it’s time for a good solid Easter bunny. Oh wait. I just had my teeth cleaned. Crap.

Heh heh

Warning: The following blog entry contains strong language, sexual references (not mine!) and hideous spelling mistakes (especially not mine!)
I found this thread on a Vancouver message board, quite by accident - but I thought it was funny. Enjoy.

Would i get pregnant if i have sex without a condom, but i am taking the pill? The pill is 'Femodene' 'oral'.I havent missed any pills ever, so i dont think i will get pregnant, but is there a chance?Would someone email me too, just to talk to me if you have anything else to tell me?Thanks :)
fifi
You are on the pill AND using condoms? It is highly unlikely you will get pregnant unless you are careless with your pills.
Real Woman
The only thing 100% guaranteed to not get you pregnant is abstinence.
Lexington Steele
Wrong, there's also blowjobs and buttsex.
Real Woman
Actually you're the one who is wrong. Studies have been done to show that any kind of sexual intercourse can result in pregnancy. With blowjobs the sperm can travel through your digestive system to the uterus. With "buttsex" (as you put it) the same thing can happen only in the reverse direction. Think before you say Lexington Steele.
Thunder
How on earth can a woman get pregant by having sperm in her digestive system or GI tract? Please explain further; I am intrigued.
Real Woman
Studies have been done I read about them. You need to read more.
Thunder
I will read them. Where can I find these "studies"?
crock
WOW! This is the biggest ignoramus crock of shit EVER seen on the DV.
Real Woman
If you think you're so intellignet Thunder than learn how too use google. I'm not going to do your work for you shithead. crock why don't you go fuck yourself.
Thunder
LOL, I figured you'd say something like this. How the f*ck can I google for study that doesn't exist? I simply asked where I can find these studies. Gawd, don't be such a loser.
Woman
Sorry Real Women, but there is no way in hell Sperm can survive stomach acids if they were to swallow. Sperm are quite unstable outside of the body and would have to be damn strong to survive stomach acids, in fact it is phyically impossible...same go for anal.
Jenny
I've been lucky that I never got pregnant while on the pill. As soon as I got off the pill I got pregnant by my husband and 9-months later I had twin boys. They are the love of my life beside my husband. After that I went back on the pill. I guess the experience is different for everyone.
***End of Thread***
I guess the debate ended there. I wonder if Real Woman still abstains from all three? :)

Pregnancy Hormones Run Amok!
Well. Let me tell you. After coming into work and finding that someone on the weekend had messed around with some papers on my desk, I think that perhaps Crazy Kooky Pregnant Lady is lurking very closely beneath the surface. Normally I would slough that kind of thing off, but I am disturbingly disturbed about it. It’s only photocopies that were tampered with…the staples taken out and sloppily put back in (I’m mad because these were copies I’d made specifically for someone, and I wanted them to be CLEAN). So I’m on a stealth mission to find out who the culprit was. No success so far. But I have an idea. I remade a copy and put a yellow sticky on it with the words “RESERVED COPY. DO NOT TOUCH”.
I think everyone around me knows I mean business. Stay away from Christa. She’s just not right.
But on the inside, I’m just a-chuckling away. I'm embracing my Inner Crazy Kooky Pregnant Lady today. Huzzah!
Edited to Add: I just read my horoscope:
"You could be running fast today, yet you might not feel particularly hurried. Perhaps it's because you are distracted by something that's bothering you and you are committed to managing your problems while maintaining a light-hearted manner. Don't bother trying to fake it; others will appreciate you more if you show your true self -- even if you are more serious than usual. "
BWAH HA HA HA HA HA!

Here is a Canadian website that has a lot of the baby items we're looking for:
http://registry.lcnd.ca/registry.asp?registry=MLF-JDZ
I will most likely adding to it...who knew that babies needed (and that parents wanted) so much stuff?!!!
Once again, no pressure to buy anything! Just for those who've asked!
Well, it seems Spring is here to stay now. The crocus have already bloomed just outside the Museum doorstep and it has been super sunny in these here parts. Me very happy!
On the menu tonight: 5 episodes of The Office, with a half-hour break in between for Kenny vs. Spenny. Talk about fun tv marathon! Woohoo! Hopefully we'll both be able to stay up to watch it all...turns out it was a demanding day for me and Matt too. Good night!

Limber Limbs
I’m starting to get a bit freaked out that there are only approximately 9 weekends to go before our lives are completely transformed. Time to start nesting! We’ve finally moved into our “new” bedroom, and the rest of the place is s-l-o-w-l-y coming together. I think Roscoe is also a bit freaked out, but as far as cats go, I think we’re pretty lucky…I’ve heard about family pets going a bit berserk with large changes to their homes and lifestyles, and leaving little “presents” on the pillows or what not. Roscoe is taking things in stride, but is looking a little confused these days.
Just a quick update on our online baby registry…I have to apologize, I did not think of the charges being in U.S. $$. And because the company is located in California, there are some hefty shipping charges too. So I’ve taken off most of the items, and the only ones left are all the Zanzibar Collection items which I couldn’t find in Canada - yet. I’ll let you know if I locate them elsewhere. I will try to set up a good ol’ Canadian registry too. Thanks for your patience and understanding!
